About the Mosaic x

The Touch of the Master?s Hand

Artist/Design: Gino Barsanti and J. Peircy Studios

This life size mosaic ? more than eight feet high and 20 feet wide ? shows the healing ministry of Christ in action. A family stands by with varied emotions as Christ heals their child.

Gino Barsanti, an Italian mosaic, marble and bronze fabricator, creator installed ?the Touch of the Master?s Hand,? employing the same painstaking techniques that have been in use for centuries.

The flesh, garments, vegetation and sky consist of individual pieces (tesserae) of amalti, a special type of smooth glass designed to reflect rather than transmit color. Portions of the faces are composed of 180 to 200 slightly varying shades of glass. The architectural elements are low foreground of the mosaic consist of pieces of marble.

Barsanti and his team in Italy took a personal interest in the creation of this mosaic, which consists of an estimated 200,000 pieces, each carefully selected and manipulated according to size, shape and color to contribute to the overall effect. Those who view the finished masterpiece say it takes on a different appearance throughout the day as it is highlighted by the sun from different angles. Its beauty is thought to be at its peak in the glow of the morning sun.

This Mosaic is on display in the chapel of the Ginsburg Tower on the campus of Florida Hospital Orlando.

"The Power of Being Deeply Heard" - this chapter title from a book review sums up my experience in CPE. Being deeply heard-by God, by fellow chaplains, by my supervisor-and then, learning to listen in a deepr way to others, especially those facing crisis. Out of being heard and the practice of listening I have grown as a person and as a pastor. This growth continues even as I have moved from parish ministry to administrative duties."

Welcome to Pastoral Education Services

We would like to welcome you to Florida Hospital's Pastoral Education Department website:

  •   As an ACPE, Inc. accredited Clinical Pastoral Education center our focus is on providing practical theological education in a clinical setting. An inductive learning process is the foundation of this method of pastoral formation and skill development education. The individual learning process engaged in CPE makes our CPE programs an important part of spiritual care training for: clergy in all settings, lay people who minister in their faith community and for those who are sensing a call to chaplaincy - pastoral ministry in a specialized setting.
  • As a partner in nurturing and educating Seventh-day Adventist pastors called to ministry in the hospital setting our department has a joint program which combines CPE, academic education, and ministry internships within Florida Hospital. This collaborative program brings together the resources and vision of Adventist Health System, Andrews University Theological Seminary and the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in a unique program of pastoral formation.
  •  We are honored to serve alongside other ministries, both here at Florida Hospital and throughout the community. As you are considering how best to prepare for your ministry calling we hope that these resources will aid and support you.
